The Port Of Long Beach – 6th Street Utility Bridge Project

Several years ago, the County of Los Angeles initiated a plan to modernize the Los Angeles River Flood Control Channel (LACDA- Los Angeles County Drainage Area). In a hydraulic study performed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, it was recommended that the 6th Street Utility Bridge be raised 3.92 feet.

In response, the Port of Long Beach contracted EDM Services to provide engineering, permitting, and construction support services for the 6th Street Utility Bridge Project.

The detailed project engineering tasks involved the engineering and detail drawing preparation needed to describe the modifications to the utility bridge in order to raise its height by almost 4 feet. This effort included the design of structures to assist in the jacking of the bridge to its new height and the permanent support structures needed to fix the bridge in place after jacking.
